Taking all things together, it united around 250 building universities in Tamil Nadu. In December 2001, it was changed over into an affiliating college, with practically all building universities in the province of Tamil Nadu under its overlap and furthermore engrossing all the six government designing schools in Tamil Nadu as its constituent universities. In 1982 the present name of Anna University was received, expelling the words "Perarignar" and "Innovation". Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT) was the first name utilized in 1978.
